Founded in 1972 by the Aldersgate Foundation, a Methodist-affiliated group with a mission to build retirement housing the same way churches, parsonages, and schools were built: through tithes, donations, and endowments, Aldersgate Village began with humble beginnings.
Back then, there were no paved roads or streetlights. Residents handled their own yard work and cooked most of their meals, with just one shared meal served at noon. But even in those early days, the strong sense of community was already alive. Friendships formed quickly, and celebrations were a regular part of life.
Over time, John Knox Village has grown and improved, but the heart of the community—friendship, connection, and neighborly spirit- remains as strong as ever.
