The Friends of Gaineswood Inc. was established in 1995 to preserve, develop, expand, and commemorate the historical significance of the Gaineswood mansion and its surrounding property. This is achieved through the acquisition of public funding and state assistance. The organization also aims to cultivate and promote public appreciation and support for the Gaineswood Museum.

Gaineswood, located in Demopolis, Alabama, is widely recognized as one of America's most exceptional Greek Revival homes. As a National Historic Landmark, it holds great cultural and historical significance. The mansion was meticulously constructed over 18 years from 1843 to 1861 by its owner and architect Nathan Bryan Whitfield.
