Resort at Moon Lake
Resort at Moon Lake has a legacy that stretches back nearly a century, rooted in the natural beauty and rustic charm of Utah’s Uinta Mountains. Since the first special use permit was issued in 1925, the resort has evolved through generations of caretakers, each leaving a lasting mark on its history. From its humble beginnings near Brown Duck Creek with cabins built by the Lee Alger family, to its relocation during the construction of Moon Lake Dam in 1935, the resort has remained a timeless retreat for nature lovers. Original cabins moved by horse teams still welcome guests today, alongside those built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and later expanded under the Kemp family’s stewardship from the 1940s to the 1960s.
The resort continued to flourish under the ownership of Cal Clark and eventually the Reardon family, who brought decades of passion and care to the property. Since 2019, the Gardners have proudly carried on this tradition, operating the Resort at Moon Lake under a Special Use Permit from the Ashley National Forest. Today, the resort offers a peaceful getaway where history, wilderness, and hospitality converge. With its original beer bar still intact and its vintage cabins lovingly maintained, Resort at Moon Lake invites visitors to step back in time and experience the enduring magic of one of Utah’s most treasured mountain destinations.
