Equality Florida
Equality Florida, established in 1997, is the state's largest civil rights organization dedicated to achieving full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Through lobbying, grassroots organizing, education, and coalition building, the organization strives to ensure that no individual faces harassment or discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Key initiatives include public policy advocacy, community organizing, and the Safe & Healthy Schools program, which collaborates with school districts to implement best practices supporting LGBTQ students.
With a presence in major Florida cities, Equality Florida has cultivated a robust network of over 300,000 supporters and more than 1,000 volunteers statewide. The organization also emphasizes healthcare equity by partnering with medical facilities to ensure compassionate and inclusive care for LGBTQ patients. Additionally, through the Equality Means Business program, Equality Florida highlights employers that have adopted comprehensive non-discrimination policies, reinforcing the economic and social benefits of diversity and inclusion.
