Armadillo Project

The Armadillo Project, based in Hibbing, Minnesota, was established in memory of Cpl Travis Nowak, a dedicated Marine and 2013 Hibbing High School graduate. Travis aspired to utilize the G.I. Bill to earn a business degree and return to his hometown to open an Airsoft playing field. Tragically, on November 10th, 2016, Travis took his own life, highlighting the critical need for comprehensive support systems for veterans transitioning to civilian life.

In response, the Armadillo Project was founded to provide essential resources and support to veterans and their families during reintegration. Our mission focuses on advocating for improved mental health care accessibility, educating the community about mental health and its relation to suicide, and creating awareness to combat veteran suicide. By addressing gaps in the separation process and establishing mental health plans prior to discharge, we strive to honor Travis's legacy and make a positive impact on the lives of our servicemen and women.
