Altadena Library District
Established in December 1926, the Altadena Library District is an independent special district dedicated to serving the residents of Altadena, California. Encompassing approximately eight square miles in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, the District operates under the provisions of the California Education Code and is supported by local property taxes. Governed by a locally elected Board of Library Trustees, the District is committed to providing accessible and comprehensive library services to its community.
The District comprises the Main Library, located at 600 East Mariposa Street, and the Bob Lucas Memorial Branch Library and Literacy Center at 2659 Lincoln Avenue. The Main Library, designed by architect Boyd Georgi and built in 1967, is surrounded by a park-like setting, offering patrons a serene environment for reading and study. The Bob Lucas Memorial Branch, dedicated in 1957, houses the District's literacy services, underscoring our commitment to lifelong learning. Through a diverse collection of resources, innovative programs, and community-focused services, the Altadena Library District strives to enrich the lives of its patrons and foster a love for knowledge and culture.
