The Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of the Big Bend Region, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization based in Tallahassee, Florida, dedicated to supporting early childhood development across Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla counties. As a contracted partner of Florida’s Division of Early Learning, the ELC administers both the School Readiness and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) programs. Since its establishment in 2001, originally as the Leon School Readiness Coalition, the organization has evolved through legislative transitions and regional expansions to serve the broader Big Bend community. Its mission is to provide leadership and advocacy that build a community where all children are prepared for success in school.
The ELC works closely with families and child care providers to ensure children are equipped for educational success and families are supported in their ability to work. Services include tuition assistance, caregiver education, child care information resources, and community referrals. The organization also offers professional development opportunities for child care professionals, bridging the gap between home and school by sharing vital information on child development. With a vision that all children are prepared for success in school, the ELC remains committed to a holistic, family-centered approach that emphasizes quality, accessibility, and growth for both children and their caregivers.
