Located at 2750 Indiana Avenue in Lansing, Illinois, the Lansing Public Library has been a cornerstone of the community since its humble beginnings in 1936. Starting in a small rented space with books from the WPA, the library quickly grew thanks to community support and dedication. Over the decades, it transitioned through several buildings, continually expanding its collection, modernizing its facilities, and joining regional library networks like SWAN to better serve its patrons. Named in honor of longtime Board President Lewis O. Flom, the current 30,000-square-foot facility was completed in 1976 and continues to evolve as a vibrant hub of learning, creativity, and connection.
Today, the Lansing Public Library offers much more than books. It features public computers, study rooms, a Teen space with a gaming area, an Idea Lab for audio/visual projects, and ongoing programs for all ages. Major renovations in recent years have created flexible, welcoming spaces like the Quiet Room and Community Room, while outdoor improvements include green spaces and seating with Wi-Fi access. The library also invests in community outreach, partnerships, and events like the Summer Block Party and concerts at Fox Pointe. Under the leadership of new Director Lisa Korajczyk, the library remains committed to innovation, inclusion, and exceptional service for everyone in the Lansing community.
