Based in Bismarck, North Dakota, the Lignite Energy Council is committed to protecting, maintaining, and advancing the development of the region’s abundant lignite coal resources. Our primary mission is to support a sustainable and viable lignite industry by promoting the responsible use of lignite in electricity generation, synthetic natural gas production, and the creation of valuable byproducts. We advocate for policies and initiatives that ensure lignite remains a key component of the region’s energy future.
Our membership is made up of a diverse network of stakeholders, including mining operations, electric utilities, gas producers, and service providers who rely on and support the lignite industry. Together, we work to strengthen the economic and energy security of the region through innovation, collaboration, and stewardship of North Dakota’s lignite resources.
