Animal Rescue of Carroll
Founded by a group of passionate volunteers in 2006, Animal Rescue of Carroll (ARC) was established to improve the welfare of pets in need of homes throughout the Carroll area. With unwavering dedication, volunteers organized fundraising efforts and adoption events, and many pets were cared for in foster homes while awaiting permanent placement. ARC officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on January 27, 2009, and received its shelter license from the Iowa Department of Agriculture on February 3, 2011. Initially operating out of a converted hog confinement building northeast of Carroll, the shelter provided a safe though modest space for dogs. In 2015, following a successful fundraising campaign, construction began on a new shelter facility, which officially opened in October 2016, completely funded and equipped to house both dogs and cats.
Today, ARC is operated by an Executive Director, a dedicated Board of Directors, and a team of tireless volunteers. These individuals manage daily operations such as fostering, processing adoption applications, facility maintenance, animal care, fundraising, and grant writing. ARC also supports Carroll County’s law enforcement in cases of animal abuse, hoarding, and the rescue of strays who might otherwise face euthanasia. Relying heavily on donations, grants, fundraising events, and adoption fees which often do not cover the full cost of care ARC continues to serve as a vital resource for animals in need. Community support remains essential, and ARC warmly welcomes new volunteers and contributions of any size to continue its mission.
