Event Name:
EMCT presents Pride and Prejudice, by Andrew Davies, based on the novel by Jane Austen
Description

Join us for the classic love story of Pride and Prejudice, by Andrew Davies, based on the novel by Jane Austen. Performances are April 24–26 at 7:00 p.m. at Eagle Valley Elementary.

”It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

When two rich gentlemen come to the neighborhood of Merryton, the enthusiastic (if misguided) Mrs. Bennet is determined to marry off at least one of her five daughters. The youngest Bennet sisters, frivolous and silly Lydia and Kitty, are too busy flirting with the officers from the local militia to notice either of the gentlemen. (Middle child Mary would rather read a book, to Mrs. Bennet’s despair.)

Mrs. Bennet is thrilled when the friendly and charming Mr. Bingley quickly falls for the eldest Miss Bennet, Jane, who is as beautiful as she is kind-hearted.

Mrs. Bennet’s plans, however, suffer a severe setback when second daughter Elizabeth (who is the favorite of her father, the easy-going but sarcastic Mr. Bennet) takes an immediate dislike to the proud Mr. Darcy after she overhears him telling his friend that Elizabeth isn’t pretty enough to dance with.

Mr. Darcy’s initial opinion of Elizabeth quickly changes, however, and he is soon bewitched by her fine eyes and playful manner—just as handsome officer Mr. Wickham tells Elizabeth of the cruel treatment he has received at the hands of Mr. Darcy, deepening her dislike of the man. And why has Mr. Bingley left town so suddenly without a word to Jane?

Will Elizabeth be able to see past her prejudices, or will Mr. Darcy’s pride—and the antics of the rest of the Bennet family—keep them apart forever?

This stage adaptation is written by Andrew Davies, the writer of the beloved 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. We ardently believe that you, too, will fall in love with this production.

”Pride and Prejudice (Davies)” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
