Filling the middle-housing gap – a creative community approach
Helen will share the why and the how of the employee housing project developed by the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis. Recruiting and retaining young professionals into the local community is a challenge faced by most employers because of low inventory and lack of affordability. The Club took an old idea and used it in a new way to address the problem and inspire other local employers to follow, or do something better!
Helen is the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club, joining the organization in 2006 after an 18-year career at HP. Helen is a community collaborator, connector and passionate advocate for children, teens, families and young professionals. Her experience in raising awareness of local issues and initiatives to influence policy, priorities, and secure financial support to address targeted needs is reflected in the current project completed in the fall of 2024 to build employee housing for her staff. Helen currently serves on the Central Willamette Credit Union Board, is a member of Rotary, and was a Corvallis School Board member. She is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Corvallis, an Advisory Council member, and recipient of the 2014 Hans Neukomm Leadership Award.
