Sky Islands Regional Partnership Signs Letter to Arizona Congressional Delegation in Support of Chambers and Nonprofits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dear Arizona Congressional Delegation:

The undersigned chambers of commerce throughout Arizona ask you for your continued support
of chambers and other nonprofit organizations as Congress debates tax reform over the coming
weeks.

Chambers of commerce serve as vital advocates for local businesses, providing resources,
networking opportunities, and support systems that are essential for economic development.
They help small businesses thrive, which in turn creates jobs, stimulates innovation, and bolsters
the local economy.

Similarly, other nonprofit organizations are the backbone of our society, addressing critical needs
that are often overlooked by other sectors. They provide essential services in areas such as
education, healthcare, social services, and the arts. Non-profits rely heavily on donations and
grants to carry out their missions, and any additional tax burden could severely limit their
capacity to deliver these services.

These private sector organizations step in to help when the government can't or shouldn't.
Without the work of nonprofits and associations, many critical services – like healthcare,
nutrition, and workforce development – could become more expensive or inaccessible for people
in need.

Because nonprofit organizations work to serve the public good, the federal government first
provided tax exemption for these organizations over 100 years ago. This year, Congress can
reaffirm that commitment to organizations that serve people in need across the country. The
contributions of chambers of commerce and nonprofits are invaluable, and their ability to operate
without undue financial strain is imperative. Increasing taxes on these organizations would not
only undermine their efforts but also have a ripple effect on the communities they serve.

As Congress debates tax policy in 2025, we ask you to continue to support chambers,
associations and other nonprofits by preserving their current tax treatment so that these
organizations may continue to dedicate their resources toward their missions thereby allowing
them to thrive and carry-on their vital work
